Alexander Mar Kekula: Championing Child Welfare and Youth Empowerment in Ghana
Alexander Mar Kekula, a Liberian-born child welfare advocate, serves as the National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Ghana. His leadership has been central to advancing the organization's mission of providing care and support for vulnerable children and families across the country.

Born in Liberia and raised in Ghana, Kekula describes growing up in Ghana as a "great blessing," citing the country's peaceful environment and rich culture as foundational to his development. He is an alumnus of SOS Hermann Gmeiner International College (SOS-HGIC) in Ghana, an institution he credits for nurturing his commitment to community service. He furthered his education at the University of St. Thomas in the United States before returning to Ghana to contribute to Africa’s development.
As National Director, Kekula oversees the strategic planning and operational management of SOS Children’s Villages Ghana. His work focuses on delivering effective programs that support children, young people, families, and communities. Under his leadership, the organization has strengthened its efforts in sustainable financial management, human capacity building, and high-standard child care services.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Kekula spearheaded innovative solutions such as alternative schooling models and distributed relief items to families in need. His initiatives have also focused on equipping youth with vocational skills and startup tools, empowering them to become self-reliant and reduce unemployment.
Kekula is a passionate advocate for child welfare and youth empowerment. He has called on society to create safe environments where children can thrive, famously stating,
“No child deserves to go to bed hungry.”

Beyond his directorship, Kekula also serves on the board of SOS-HGIC, where he continues to support educational initiatives that align with his vision for child development and leadership.
